I started a blog! I’m so excited and have so many ideas. But first! Let me introduce myself with this tag from Love and Other Bookish Things.
Why did you start this blog?
To meet more people who love books! I have friends who also enjoy reading, but we don’t always read the same things, so I’d love a space to talk more about some of what I’m reading. Plus you can never have too many bookish friends!
What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?
I like to think I read a really eclectic mix of books, which means you’ll find all sorts of new books via my blog (not that your TBR really needs to be any longer…). More than just reading books, though, I like thinking about them and examining my bookish habits. For instance, how many books are too many to own? Obviously the ideal answer is that you can never have too many books, but what happens when you legitimately run out of space? Do you need to keep every book you own? I’d like to think my blog will help promote more conversation about books in general rather than just specific reads.
What are you most excited for about this new blog?
Mostly to join the bookish community and meet new people to talk about books with!
Why do you love reading?
Well that’s a doozy of a question. It definitely varies from genre to genre, but overall I would say I really like losing myself in other worlds and learning about people and places that are different from me and my world. I just find it so addicting.
What book or series got you into reading?
I can’t really say there was a specific book or series. Of course, there are a number of books from my childhood that I adored and still count among my favorites, but the reality is that I already loved reading before I picked up The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe or Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone or Nancy Drew. My mom just always encouraged me to read and checked out tons of books for me from the library at a young age.
What questions would you ask your favorite authors?
For a former reporter, I am the worst at thinking up interesting questions to ask authors that haven’t already been asked of them a million times. I’m much more likely to jump off of someone else’s super interesting question and ask them to continue the conversation.
What challenges do you think starting a book blog will be the hardest to overcome?
Honestly, I think a lot of the technology will be a big of a struggle. Like, getting my blog to an aesthetic that I want and having it function the way I want is going to be a challenge.
And also putting myself out there! I obviously don’t want my blog to wallow in anonymity, but using Twitter and other social media to interact with people solely online is something I haven’t done before, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I’m hopeful it’s going to be awesome, though, or I wouldn’t be starting a blog!
When did you start reading?
I really don’t remember. My parents have told me that people thought I could read at a really young age (like three or so) because I had memorized one of my favorite books (not that I could tell you which one), but the reality is that I probably learned how to do it properly at school.
One of my earliest memories about books is sitting on the arm of our armchair while my mom had a stack of children’s books in her lap and had me go through and read them out loud to her. It was a regular activity after school in kindergarten.
Where do you read?
Absolutely anywhere. Seriously, I think part of the reason I read as much as I do is because I pull out a book while I wait for the elevator or in line for my coffee, though obviously some books are better suited to short snippets than others.
When I have longer chunks of time, I enjoy reading in my bed the most, though one day I’d like to find the perfect reading chair.
What kinds of books do you like to read?
I think my preferred genres are probably fantasy (both adult and YA), historical romance, and history/biography, though I do read a number of books across a variety of genres. But those three are my go-tos.
And that’s all for this tag! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions and what you enjoy most about reading blogs.
