Check out the recent happenings!
We have a title for Sarah J. Maas’ upcoming Catwoman book! It will be titled Soulstealer and will be released on August 7, 2018. I’ll admit, I didn’t care about the DC Icons series at all when I first heard about it, but I got really excited for it when I saw all four authors speak on a panel at BookCon. Though I somehow still haven’t gotten around to reading Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo…
So J.K. Rowling is basically trying to take all of my money (I would say she’s succeeding, unfortunately). Bloomsbury has announced that they will be releasing an illustrated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard on October 2, 2018.
Paper Fury has a face! And a last name! And she’s writing a book! Cait from the blog Paper Fury (which is hilarious and you should definitely check out) has announced that she will be publishing a book titled A Thousand Perfect Notes in June 2018. I’m so excited for her!
Speaking of book deals, Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst is getting a sequel! I have yet to read this book, but I’ve heard great things and actually have it checked out from the library right now as part of the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge.
We also have a title and cover for the sequel to My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows! My Plain Jane will be out on June 26, 2018. I wasn’t the biggest fan of My Lady Jane, but I loved the cover and think this one is gorgeous too.
- Read the most recent contemporary book you purchased/acquired
- Read an adult contemporary
- Read a contemporary that has characters on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum
- Read a romance that is five years old or older
- Read a contemporary that (to the best of your knowledge) is NOT set during the summer
- Read a dark/taboo contemporary
- Buddy read a book with someone OR read the group book (Like Water by Rebecca Podos)
I think the ContemporaryAThon sounds like the perfect time to get through some of the contemporary books on my shelves, so I’m definitely planning to participate.
I have a couple quick links I wanted to share with you this week. First, author Malinda Lo did an amazing blog post titled LGBTQ YA By the Numbers: 2015-2016 that I highly recommend checking out. While LGBTQ characters have increased in YA literature, the numbers show there’s still a long way to go.
Second, this family got stranded in Scotland and was rescued by the Hogwarts Express! How awesome is that?
And on a more personal note, I won a book drawing! Fantasy romance author C.L. Wilson is doing weekly giveaways on her blog in anticipation of the release of The Sea King (one of my most anticipated books this fall), and I won one! My name was drawn for a set of autographed collector’s cards and bookmarks for the Weathermages of Mystral series. There’s still time for you to enter too if you’re interested. Just check out her blog here for the details.
And, in other big news, I was approved for an advanced reader copy of A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole, another book that was listed on my most anticipated fall book list! So keep an eye out on my blog closer to the release date for my full thoughts on the book, and expect more reviews of upcoming releases in the future.
Ok, I think that’s everything from me for this week. What bookish news are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments!
