Book News: December 22, 2017

Check out the latest happenings!

I’m pretty sure I’ll be posting next week, but if you don’t see anything, then that means I decided to take a bit of time off for Christmas. Either way, be prepared for a bunch of yearend posts in the next couple of weeks!

The 2018 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge is here! I think they have a really good selection of tasks this year. I know I said in my 2017 Read Harder Recap that I wasn’t sure I’d participate this year, but now I’m thinking I will…

We have the title for the next Red Rising book! The sequel to Iron Gold will be Dark Age. Fingers crossed it’s here soon!!

Vicious has a new cover, and it’s gorgeous! I still haven’t read this book, but I’m hoping to get to it really soon. Depending on how in love with it I become, I might have to switch out my edition for this one…

There are two new All Souls books coming in 2018! I just finished reading A Discovery of Witches and enjoyed it so much that I immediately went out and bought the box set, so I’m really excited to hear about the compendium book and the new series starting with Marcus’ story. Plus there will be tours, so you know I’ll be getting my books signed…

Check out the full update on Deborah Harkness’ Facebook page here.

Apparently Marvel didn’t want to be left out of the YA fun (I still haven’t read Warbringer…). Mackenzi Lee of A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue fame has announced that she’ll be writing a three-book historical fiction series focusing on some of Marvel’s most popular antiheroes. First up is Loki! I’m really excited to see what this series will wind up looking like. Unfortunately we have to wait until spring of 2019 though. It’s so far away!

So romance Twitter got really upset when Hillary Clinton commented in a Washington Post article that “the whole romance novel industry is about women being grabbed and thrown on a horse and ridden off into the distance” (we’re also not thrilled that out of all the pull quotes that could have been used in this tweet, the interviewer chose this one).

But the beauty of it is that a lot of romance authors responded by encouraging Hillary to give romance novels a chance. I really enjoyed this one by Maya Rodale, who started a Romance Novels for Hillary hashtag. BookRiot collected a lot of the recommendations in this post. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if HRC winds up with a few boxes of romance novels showing up on her doorstep…

I haven’t read Forest of a Thousand Lanterns yet, but I’ve heard good things, so I was excited to see that Julie Dao has announced the title of the sequel.

Epic Reads has revealed the cover for The Towering Sky, the final book in The Thousandth Floor series. I doubt I’ll ever read these books, but I wanted to include this because the covers are gorgeous!

Whew, that was a lot of news these past few weeks! Is it sad that Iron Gold isn’t here yet and I’m already ready for Dark Age? I also haven’t finished the All Souls trilogy yet, but I can’t wait for Marcus’ story! And if you click on anything from this post, I definitely encourage you to check out Maya’s letter to HRC. What are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments!

  1. More All Souls? Not sure how I feel about that. Loved the first one. Don’t remember if I finished the second one (if I did it took forever) and the third one is collecting Kindle dust. I do like a good series, though so I may have to revisit.
