Book News: March 2, 2018

Things have slowed down a bit since my last Book News installment, but there’s still a lot to get through. We have updates from Lisa Kleypas, Khaled Hosseini, Jay Kristoff, and more!

#####

To start out, The Ripped Bodice bookstore has released its 2017 State of Racial Diversity in Romance Publishing Report. This is a great look at some hard data that really shows the number of diverse authors publishing in romance (one of the largest genres on the market!) are just not there. And sadly, the numbers are even more dismal than last year. I definitely recommend checking out the full report through the link below.

#####

Lisa Kleypas’ newest book, Hello Stranger, just hit shelves this week, but she’s already teasing her next book! In the interview below, she mentions that it will be titled Devil’s Daughter and will be Phoebe (Lord St. Vincent’s daughter) and West’s story!

#####

Khaled Hosseini has announced a new book! It will be published on September 18, and you can check out more details on what to expect in the article below. Apparently it has illustrations and is based on a film he helped write? I’m a little unclear if this is a traditional novel or not, but regardless, I’m really excited to have a new Hosseini book to look forward to!

#####

Michelle Obama has announced she’s working on a memoir, which will be published on November 13. She’s such an inspirational figure, so I’m excited to check out this book.

#####

Tor just dropped the cover for V.E. Schwab’s upcoming book, Vengeful! It’s currently scheduled for a September 25 release date, though I know Schwab has detailed on social media how much work this book has been and said there’s a chance it might get pushed back. Either way, I still need to read Vicious!

#####

We have a cover for The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy! I actually don’t love it as much as the cover of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, which is one of my faves, but I’m still really looking forward to this book! It hits shelves October 2.

#####

Santino Hassell released the title and cover for his next book in the Barons series! I loved the first two books in this series so, so much. I’m not as excited for this one because I didn’t like the main character when he was in Down by Contact, but I trust Hassell to give him a good redemption arc! Use of Hands will be published on September 18.

In light of emerging information about Hassell’s inappropriate behavior, I no longer stand by my endorsement of Use of Hands. Please see this post for more details.

#####

We have the title for the final Nevernight book! According to Goodreads, it’s scheduled for publication on September 4, but I believe that’s a tentative date right now based on what Kristoff has said on Twitter. Regardless, I’m excited for the conclusion of this trilogy!

#####

And last but not least, I have a few articles and a video I wanted to share with you. One is this really interesting interview with Cat Sebastian on what it’s like to write queer characters in historical romance. If you like A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and you want even more romance, I definitely recommend checking out her books. Though these are definitely not YA.

Goodreads also had two great recommendations posts recently. One was with Tamora Pierce about the books she’s taking with her on her tour, and the other is Tomi Adeyemi’s list of diverse recommendations. Some great books on both lists!

And I was lucky enough to go to Avon’s panel at The Strand earlier this week and see Lisa Kleypas, Beverly Jenkins, Alisha Rai, Alyssa Cole, and Katharine Ashe speak! It was a super fun panel, and The Strand posted the video here if you’re interested.Pictures of my signed books are up on my Instagram. Fun fact: Rai and I wound up talking about Fargo in the middle of the panel! I had no idea she used to live there, so that was pretty cool. Second fun fact: The Strand didn’t have any further plans for the poster of A Princess in Theory, so someone from my book club took it home so she can put it in her office. Talk about the best office decor ever!

#####

Oh, and on a blog news note, I’m going to be at Book Expo and Book Con! Let me know if you’ll be in New York for either of them. I’d love to meet up!!

#####

Alright, that’s it for this installment. Let me know in the comments what piece of book news you’re most excited about!
