As I mentioned in my 2018 Reading Goals post, I want to make sure and read at least three books from my shelves that I had at the beginning of 2018, plus I want to make sure and read books within three months of purchase, so my TBRs going forward are going to reflect those goals.

Wuthering Heights by Charlotte Bronte

Ok, I’ve literally had this edition of Wuthering Heights since I bought it at a used book sale in college (like, four years ago) and I still haven’t read it. It seems to me like people tend to like either Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters but rarely both. As it so happens, I’m a huge Austen fan, and I didn’t care for Jane Eyre by Emily Bronte, so I have rather low expectations of this book.

Why am I reading it then, you ask? It’s been so influential on a lot of the books I love to read. Wuthering Heights has had a broad and lasting impact in both literary fiction and genre fiction like romance, and it’s enduring enough that it’s frequently referenced as part of modern culture, so it’s important to me to have read it. Plus it’s not that long of a book, and who knows? Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

After getting a bit off track with my Harry Potter reread, I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last month and I want to keep going in January with Order of the Phoenix. I’ll admit I thought Goblet of Fire got a little long this time around, so I’m a bit wary of Order of the Phoenix, but I also know this is when the world really opens up and the series starts driving towards its conclusion. Plus it’s Harry Potter, so I know it’ll be a good read.

I still have to read at least two other books from my shelves this month. I’ve been meaning to read Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo for ages, and it’s frankly shocking that I haven’t read it yet, so I’m thinking I might pick up that one. I’ve also been wanting to pick up Hunger by Roxane Gay for a while now, and seeing it on so many best of 2017 lists is making me push it to the top of my list.

At the same time, I’m really excited to finish the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness, which I started in December and loved. I also just finished The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner and am excited to read the next book in the series, The King of Attolia.

Plus I have an advanced copy of Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath that I’m excited to read before it comes out at the end of the month. And now that it’s finally 2018, I want to read my advanced copy of A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole, which I’m even more excited for in light of the upcoming royal wedding! And I don’t know what book it is just yet, but I’ll be reading the February pick for my romance book club.

I also have a bunch of anticipated releases coming out this month. I can pretty much guarantee you that I will read Heart on Fire by Amanda Bouchet and Down by Contact by Santino Hassell as soon as they’re out. I’m also super excited to read Iron Gold, but I’m going to wait to buy a copy until Pierce Brown’s book signing in New York later in the month. I wouldn’t be surprised if I start and finish it in January, but we’ll see. I might decided to wait a little bit and savor the reading experience.
