Tome Topple and July TBR

A new round of Tome Topple is coming up! And since it takes up almost the first two weeks of July, I figured I’d combine my TBR for the readathon with my TBR for the month of July.

For those who aren’t familiar, Tome Topple is a two-week-long readathon focused on reading books that are longer than 500 pages. You can check out Sam from Thoughts on Tome’s announcement video with all of the details here.

I have several books I’m hoping to get to for the readathon, but we’ll just have to see how it winds up going!

John Adams by David McCullough

John Adams is one of the most popular books on my TBR that I mentioned in my June TBR that I definitely did not finish in June. I did manage to make it about a third of the way through, though, and I’m hoping to at least make it through another third during Tome Topple. I’m enjoying it, but I like taking a break and picking up fiction, and then I forget to go back to it, so Tome Topple is a good push to keep making progress.

Crazy Rich Asians

I’ve been meaning to read Crazy Rich Asians for a while and even put it on my list of 18 books to read in 2018, but I definitely want to get to it in July in anticipation of the movie coming out in August! If you’re not familiar with it, it’s about this girl who goes to visit her boyfriend’s family in Singapore only to find out when she gets there that he’s crazy rich and one of Singapore’s most eligible bachelor’s. According to the blurb, “On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.”

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling

So June technically isn’t over yet, but I very much doubt I’ll manage to make much progress on Order of the Phoenix in order to keep with my goal of rereading a book a month. So I definitely want to start and hopefully finish Order of the Phoenix during Tome Topple, and if I have time, I plan on going straight into Half-Blood Prince and read that as my July reread. I read Goblet of Fire in January, so I’m definitely overdue to finish this reread.

In addition to my picks for Tome Topple, I have a few other books I’d like to get to in the month of July.

One of them is Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, which comes out on July 14. I’m actually hoping to read this one before it’s released, but we’ll see if that happens with Tome Topple going on. I read a few pages when I was struggling to pick up what book to read next earlier this week and really enjoyed it, so I’m excited to get to this one! It’s a Rumpelstiltskin retelling following a number of different points of view, and I really like the atmospheric feel of what I’ve read so far.

Speaking of advanced copies, I’d also like to read Seafire by Natalie C. Parker and Mirage by Somaiya Daud in anticipation of their releases in August. Seafire is a fantasy book about lady pirates, while Mirage is more of a political fantasy set in a Moroccan-inspired world in which the protagonist must pose as the body double for the reigning princess.

And after having to miss my book club in June and July, I’m excited to go again in August! I’m not sure what the pick is yet, but I’ll definitely be reading that this month.

Between Tome Topple, my arcs, and my general reading, I have a lot of books to get to this month! I’m pretty excited about them all, too, and think July will be a great reading month.

Will you be participating in Tome Topple? What are you planning to pick up in the month of July? Let me know in the comments!
