Arc Roundup: 40-Love, Two Rogues Make a Right

I have two excellent books to talk to you about today! I’ve been a longtime fan of Cat Sebastian, so of course I was super excited to get my hands on her newest historical romance. And I just discovered Olivia Dade in a short story collection and immediately requested an arc of her new contemporary romance!

40-Love by Olivia Dade (June 18)

40-LoveWhen Tess accidentally loses her swimsuit top in the ocean and almost flashes a group of kids in the opening pages of 40-Love, she’s forced to use the nearby Lucas as a shield to prevent “her bare buoys from being exposed to fellow vacationers.” While both are definitely attracted to each other, Tess is convinced she’s much too old for the much younger Lucas. But Tess’ friend thinks Tess deserves a vacation fling, and arranges for Tess to take tennis lessons from Lucas, who is actually teaching at the resort while figuring out what to do now that his professional tennis career is over. The two have the length of Tess’ vacation to figure out “whether their chemistry is a one-shot wonder…or whether they’re meant to be doubles partners for life.”

Omg, this was amazing. I had the biggest grin on my face the entire time I was reading. I love the meet cute in this book, and how Lucas kept giving Tess a hard time about deliberating arranging the situation, and not being bashful about how much he enjoyed it. I love how prickly Tess was and how she really saw Lucas but kept trying to put him off by using his age as a barrier, and how he finally called her on it and decided to fully commit to trying a relationship with her. There were so many powerful and vulnerable conversations between the two of them, but they were perfectly interspersed with lots of delightful banter that just kept me smiling throughout the entire book. And I adore how Lucas took such perfect care of Tess. Everything about this book was delightful, and while it was my first full-length Olivia Dade novel, it certainly won’t be my last! Also, get yourself a physical copy of this book! It’s all about the small things, and the missing swimsuit top makes an appearance on the spine and the back cover. I love the attention to detail!

I received an arc of 40-Love from the author.

Two Rogues Make a Right by Cat Sebastian (June 23)

Two Rogues Make a RightTwo Rogues Make a Right is the much anticipated sequel to A Gentleman Never Keeps Score. The previous book ends with Will Sedgwick finding his missing best friend Martin hiding in the attic of Will’s brother’s house. Intent on helping Martin recover his health, Will whisks him off to a cottage in the countryside and helps him recover. Martin has been in love with Will his entire life, and is convinced Will is better off without him. But as the two spend more and more time together, Will slowly realizes he’s in love with Martin as well, and tries to make Martin see that he deserves to be loved, too.

I mean, I love everything Cat Sebastian, and this book is no exception. I really enjoyed Martin’s redemption arc from the previous book and getting to know him behind his super prickly shell. It was so delightful seeing Martin finally let down his barriers and tell Will how he feels about him and has always felt, and watching Will finally realize how much Martin has always meant to him. The two of them are adorable together and absolutely perfect for each other, and while there wasn’t much plot to this book, I really didn’t need it. This is such an excellent friends to lovers book, with a huge helping of just one bed. They’re both such idiots! But seriously, they’re so adorable together, and I loved seeing them fall in love and find a way to be happy together.

Also, I think Aarya has basically written the best review of this book ever, and I highly recommend checking it out!

I received an arc of Two Rogues Make a Right from the publisher via Edelweiss.

So both of these are excellent books, and I highly recommend them both! Which one has most caught your eye? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I absolutely adored both of these books! I just finished Two Rogues Make a Right on my drive home and I feel like I should have listened to you ages ago and picked it up much sooner. It was so soothing. And you already know I adored 40-Love!
